What is the Armed Forces Covenant?

The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise by the nation ensuring that those who serve or who have served in the armed forces, and their families, are treated fairly.

The key principles of the Armed Forces Covenant are that:

  2. In some circumstances special treatment may be appropriate especially for the injured or bereaved.

  • To work with Service Families by welcoming job applications from suitable individuals, partnering with Forces Families Jobs and Recruit For Spouses, and offering flexible leave before, during, and after a serving partner’s deployment;
  • To support Reservists by encouraging Reserve service, supporting mobilisations and deployments, and granting an additional 10 paid days’ leave per year for reserve activities;
  • To support the Cadet Forces by encouraging Cadet Force service, supporting cadet training events, and granting an additional 10 paid days’ leave per year for cadet activities;
