Football Law Digital Conference 2020
On 21st and 22nd May 2020, I was due to attend the Football Law Conference in London run by Law in Sport. Unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis, this was cancelled but Law in Sport have put on a digital conference instead running from 21st May – 5th June 2020 inclusive with 22 webinar sessions. It brings together leading lawyers and stakeholders across the world to debate some of the most important legal developments in the football industry. Up to 180 participants have accessed each seminar from over 40 countries.
I have so far participated in the following sessions:-
- Regulating and Educating football agents
- Key Changes to the FIFA Regulations
- Match-Fixing in Football
- Taxation and Players Transfers
These have been fantastic debates with some high profile panel members such as the Head of Legal at FC Porto, Director of Football Regulatory at FIFA, Head of Integrity at FIFA and lawyers from leading sports law firms across Europe.
As we have seen, the German Bundesliga returned to competitive football behind closed doors just over a week ago and La Liga in Spain are looking to restart on 11th June. In England, the Premier League have a provisional return date of 20th June and a project restart. However, it is not clear if that will happen at this stage.
With professional sport returning to some sort of normality in the near future, the Sports Law Department at Ellis Jones is ready to deal with any legal advice that is needed.
