Assisting local landlords & letting agents
During April, we hosted seminars in Bournemouth and Dorchester to advise landlords & letting agents on preparations for the Renters Rights Update due on 1st May 2026.
Preparing for the Renters Rights Update
Landlords and lettings agents dealing with the private rented sector will be acutely aware that widespread reform has been on the horizon for some time. The scope of the new update on the Renters’ Rights Bill, due on 1st May 2026, and the consequences of getting things wrong, is enormous – with intricate new compliance regimes for landlords and lettings agents, and substantial financial penalties for breaches. Getting ahead of the curve is therefore essential, not only to be able to deal with matters as they arise, but to start preparations for implementation day. Our landlord & tenant disputes team recently hosted two seminars to help local rental property managers and owners to prepare for the update and be aware of compliance requirements.
Our Dorchester seminar
On Wednesday 15th April our experts Senior Associate Solicitor, Conor Maher and Partner & Solicitor, Daniel Flynn welcomed landlords & letting agents from the local area to offer their advice on preparing for commencement of the Act and abolition of Section 21 ‘no fault’ evictions. The event was hosted in the historic courthouse, Shire Hall, as a wonderful setting to outline key legal details that those manging rental properties will need to be aware of. Over 30 people attended and our panel answered questions on the rights of tenants and landlords, as well as the process involved for issues with change implementation, with lots of interesting discussions taking place in the room.
Our Bournemouth seminar
Our experts also hosted a similar talk at West Hants Tennis Club in Bournemouth on Tuesday 21st April, in order to assist landlords & letting agents local to the Bournemouth and Poole area. This event welcomed 40 attendees, who connected over a networking lunch ahead of a presentation given by our experts. This was followed by a Q&A panel where guests got the opportunity to ask our speakers for their legal guidance on concerns such as key release, contracts and certificates required for tenants.
