Success for Ellis Jones from Lexcel Assessment

The Lexcel Assessment is a quality mark for client care, compliance, and practice management for legal firms. It sets the standard for areas such as client care, risk assessments, firm’s structure, and strategy, as well as financial and people management.

Our full re-assessment (FRA) took place remotely across all of our offices from 27th January to 30th January this year and we can proudly announce that it is:

“The Assessor’s strong recommendation that the Firm continues to be accredited with Lexcel certification.”

Superb feedback was given across the Firm in various areas including flexible working, IT support, management of people and continual improvement. In particular, Chris Gates assisted by Grace Tyror and Shannon Fitzell were “thanked for their full attention to the Assessor’s needs before and during the assessment period.”

It was noted that “the Firm makes sure that people know exactly what is required of them if they are to climb the promotion ladder.  There is a structured approach to personal success that mirrors the structured approach to the organisation’s success.  Objectives are set and agreed, and when achieved, people are rewarded accordingly.  Consequently, the Firm is able to adopt a policy of promoting from within existing ranks.  This is evidenced by its having eight of its current partners beginning their careers as trainees of the Firm.  Many other members of staff who joined the Firm as relatively newly qualified solicitors have also been able to climb the ladder.  Support staff too are able to progress from junior positions to being members of the top management team as evidenced by an existing example.”

Ellis Jones provides opportunities for staff at all levels to progress and support staff with their career aspirations. You can read our staff success stories and find out the career paths our people have followed.

It was recognised that “full advantage is taken by the Firm of its ability to work flexibly, staff members being provided with the necessary resources to work from remote locations when appropriate. Other staff members, and managers, encountered during the Assessment showed that they have the necessary skills, knowledge, behaviours and attitudes to make sure that the Firm’s ethos of continual improvement is supported at all levels.”

The Firm’s management of people was also recognised:

"People who were interviewed for this Assessment spoke of the various ways in which they are motivated, and how valued they are made to feel. One particular quotation, “I like the Ellis Jones way”, typifies the general mood.”

“Departments are now required to produce individual business plans that become integrated into the Firm’s overall strategic plan.  This involvement of the various facets by decentralisation makes sure that everybody contributes to the overall organisational direction and is able to take ownership of organisational objectives, resulting in a far greater probability that they will be accomplished.”

“Put People First” is one of our core values and relates to both our clients and our colleagues, and this feedback is a great reflection of this. Our culture is professional with personality, entrepreneurial, and well connected. We strive to live by our core values: building relationships, taking responsibility, mutual trust and support, and creating a positive environment.
