This is the picture that Chris Froome has today posted on Twitter after he was when he was “rammed on purpose” by a driver in France whilst out on a training ride with Team Sky. He said that the impatient driver followed him onto the pavement. His Pinarello Dogma road bike is a write off but fortunately Chris Froome is unharmed.
This incident again highlights the dangers faced by cyclists on the roads not only in the UK but abroad. It follows on from the death of Michele Scarponi on 22nd April 2017 on a training ride in Le Marche region of Italy near his home. He was hit by a van. Aged only 37, he had just been named Team Astana’s team leader for the Giro d’Italia which started on 6th May.
Ellis Jones cycling specialist, David McWilliam has seen an increase in cycling injury claims over recent years as more and more people take up the sport. Drivers do not appreciate the speed of these road bikes and need to take more care on our roads. The injuries these cyclists can suffer through careless driving are often life changing. We can help with rehabilitation, replacement bikes and loss of earnings. However, all of my clients would have preferred to have returned home from their training rides safely and have never had to make a claim.
