A Placement Year at Ellis Jones
Coming into 2023 I was determined to secure a placement for my third year of university. I believe nothing can beat using the first-hand experience of the legal world to improve my range of skills to become better as an aspiring lawyer.
I was incredibly fortunate to have obtained my legal placement in a unique manor. I was the winner of Ellis Jones Solicitors Commercial Negotiation Competition 2023 and was subsequently rewarded with the tremendous opportunity to undergo my placement at Ellis Jones.
Why Ellis Jones?
What has stood out to me the most is the friendliness of the staff that I speak to daily. Everyone works together to bring a very positive environment into the firm. It therefore made it easy to settle into work, build positive relationships with everyone around the office and as this attitude is infectious it has made my placement even more enjoyable.
The firm lives and breathes its core values, I would highly recommend looking at them as it is because of these that Ellis Jones has developed an excellent culture.
I believe when working on people’s matters it is of the utmost importance to take responsibility when doing so. Everyone at Ellis Jones has an important role to play in order to obtain the success we all strive for and thus when taking on tasks it is up to you to get them completed efficiently and to a high standard. Luckily, I have an excellent team who I can ask if I need some assistance but ultimately it is down to me to make sure these get done. This level of responsibility has helped me grow as an individual.
My experience so far
I work in the Family department and for me this has been realisation of how dynamic and adaptable you need to be. In addition to this, the emotional side to this area has showed me the importance of being able to handle clients on a human level too.
Ellis Jones also values the importance of having a good quality social life too. Many departments are encouraged to hold social events and I have been to many different networking events during my time at the firm. This has been very enjoyable as I have been able to meet with a wide range of different people across the Dorset area and speak about various experiences. It is these sorts of events that demonstrates how Ellis Jones is professional but with personality.
Overall, I am delighted to be part of this firm and cannot wait to see what the future holds for me after gaining a lot of experience and knowhow from the highly skilled solicitors that I see operate on a day to day basis.
