Stepping into family mediation: Why I’ve chosen this path
This article shares Georgina's journey into family mediation, highlighting its value in helping parents and couples resolve disputes constructively and with confidence.
As many in the family law community know, disputes don’t just involve legal issues, they involve people. Behind every case are parents, children, finances, emotions, and often a deep sense of uncertainty about the future. Over the years, I’ve seen how challenging this can be for families, and how important it is to have constructive, future-focused ways to resolve conflict.
That is why I’m pleased to share that I’ve recently qualified as a family mediator, taking on work in London and Dorset.
Why mediation matters
Mediation offers families something the court process often can’t – space to talk openly, find common ground, and shape their own outcomes. It can be quicker, less adversarial, and more practical. Crucially, it’s also confidential, giving parties the reassurance that discussions can take place privately and without fear that proposals will later be used against them in court. This confidentiality often helps people communicate more freely and focus on realistic solutions.
What I will be offering
From the new year, I’ll be taking on mediation work in the following areas:
- Parenting arrangements — supporting parents to focus on the needs and stability of their children.
- Financial matters — helping separating couples reach clear, workable financial agreements.
- Communication issues — facilitating conversations where communication has broken down or become strained.
My aim is simple: to help families move forward with clarity and confidence.
Looking ahead
I’m looking forward to expanding my work in this area and collaborating with other family law professionals who value practical, child-focused, solution-driven approaches.
