Eco Warriors take on Recycle Week
During Recycle Week, 24th – 30th September, Ellis Jones Solicitors will be introducing additional items to be recycled firm wide in aid of the charity Ideas2Action.
We are seeking to increase the amount of waste we recycle and are encouraging our clients to take part, by bringing any of the items listed below into any of our receptions so that we may recycle them on their behalf.
Items for recycling include:
- Stamps
- Coloured milk tops
- Plastic based stationery
- Biscuit wrappers
- Coffee pods/packaging/jar lids (Kenco, L’Or and Tassimo)
These are all items that can be used by Ideas2Action to raise money for local organisations and charities.
Ideas2Action
The Ideas 2 Action mission statement is;
‘To support and enhance the lives of people living in the UK by offering groups access to our portfolio of recycling projects; to assist them when identifying solutions for local needs which benefits the environment and local people.’
The charity was established on 31st October 2013 with 5 trustees and the charity’s first project took place in 2014, Win-on Waste – Canford Heath. The projects have increased and today there are 13 monthly sessions. The sessions focus on promoting waste reduction and collecting specific, recyclable items for local organisations and charities, which in turn raise funds. For example, to date £52,000 has been raised for Brain Tumour Research from recycled biros that would otherwise have gone to landfill. The projects involve local people and the items they need can be found in their directory here.
In addition to the ‘We Need That’ directory, they have also introduced a ‘Decluttering We Need That’ Directory, which can be accessed here.
Our Offices
Continuing on from the progress we have taken since our blog on 30th August 2018, some of our offices are carrying out additional recycling such as collecting plastic to drop to recycle at local centres, as well as collecting cooked and uncooked food waste for one of our Partners, Craig Wells, to compost.
Wimborne War on Waste – Plastic Free Street Party
Two of our eco-warriors (Rebecca Suthers and Nicola Hall, who both work in our Wills, Trusts and Probate Department) took part in setting up the recent Plastic Free Street Party in Wimborne Minster on Saturday 22nd September.
Despite the weather the street party celebrated what can be achieved without the use of single use plastic. To encourage rethinking, reusing and reducing!
As a result of all of the hard work of the Wimborne War on Waste Team, Wimborne Minster has recently been awarded an ‘approved plastic free community’ status and is the 32nd town in the UK to be receive the award. Ellis Jones Solicitors has helped achieve this by removing many single use plastic items from our offices, including the Wimborne Office.
