Applying for a Training Contract at Ellis Jones

Applying for training contracts can be a daunting task, and something that most of you reading this article may have experienced. However, it is an important task, and something you should ensure you approach correctly, enthusiastically, and productively. In this article I give you an insight into my experience of applying for a training contract at Ellis Jones, and my experience at the firm so far.

The Application Process

I began the training contract application process at Ellis Jones in July 2022 as an external candidate. I found the firm’s process far more personal in comparison to other experiences I’d had, and those that I’d heard of, which instantly put me at ease. Something that really stood out to me during the process was that I didn’t feel as though I was part of a tick box process, and instead felt that the firm and interviewers genuinely wanted to get to know me. They were interested to hear about me as an individual and my experiences, and what I could offer as a trainee. I also had an opportunity to get to know them and find out about the firm firsthand. It became very clear from the outset that Ellis Jones’ values are at the forefront of everything they do. After my first interview I could see what a positive environment Ellis Jones offered its trainees (amongst other staff), and what a great place it would be to grow and develop as an aspiring solicitor. Everyone I met throughout the process represented the positive, professional, and ambitious firm that Ellis Jones is.

My experience so far

…skip to a year later, and here I am, 2 months into my training contract at Ellis Jones! I can definitely say that everything I took away from the initial recruitment process was very accurate. My first few months at Ellis Jones have been great, and the firm has really given me the opportunity to settle in and familiarise myself with the processes, the environment, and a whole new area of law as I undertake my first seat in the Banking and Finance Litigation team. I have received so much support and encouragement from colleagues and mentors, and have been welcomed with open arms. I am very much looking forward to the rest of my training contract, and hope to successfully qualify into one of the firm’s teams in a couple of years time.

Applying for a training contract at Ellis Jones is a decision I am extremely pleased to have made. So, if like me you are looking to grow and develop as an aspiring solicitor in a reputable, forward-thinking, and supportive firm, I would encourage you to apply.
