General Power of Attorney

There are several types of powers of attorney and if you simply need to give access to someone to make decisions and deal with your finances on a temporary basis (e.g. you are in hospital and need assistance with paying bills etc.) then you can make a General Power of Attorney.

Unfortunately, this type of Power of Attorney cannot be used if you lose your mental capacity, unlike a registered Enduring Power of Attorney or Lasting Powers of Attorney. Whilst a General Power of Attorney can be a useful document, it is always advisable to plan ahead and a Lasting Power of Attorney is something which can be put in place in the long-term to ensure that there is always someone you trust to deal with your affairs, should you be unable to deal with these yourself.
