Supporting Swanage Railway in their 140th Year

Our Firm has announced a continued partnership with the Swanage Railway Trust, a charity our firm has supported since 2018 as they enter their 140th anniversary year.

Swanage Railway is one of Dorset’s top heritage tourism attractions, running a ten-mile steam railway line that connects Wareham, Corfe Castle and Swanage and generates a significant amount in annual tourism-related income for the Purbeck economy.

The railway staff and volunteers recently held an event to celebrate the anniversary of the first passenger train to depart from Swanage station in May 1885. Thanks to the dedication and hard work of hundreds of volunteers, the line was reopened a few years after it was shut by British Rail in the 1970s, thriving once again as a popular Purbeck amenity.

Our Firm’s support for the railway includes a range of legal advice, business services and discounts for Swanage Railway team members. Our Swanage office is just a five-minute walk from Swanage station and lots of our staff use the railway service, so we have close ties with the charity. Our Managing Partner, Nigel Smith said:

"Swanage Railway is a cherished part of the Purbeck community and we are especially proud to be able to help preserve it so that people can enjoy it now and in the future."

The anniversary event was celebrated at Swanage Railway Station and was attended by dignitaries and other invited guests.

The event featured the blowing of a Victorian brass horn said to have been used at the departure of the first train on the line back in 1885. We look forward to celebrating many more anniversaries with Swanage Railway!
