Ellis Jones inspiring the lawyers of the future

Last week on Wednesday 9th March, two trainees at Ellis Jones represented the Bournemouth and District Law Society at the Parkstone Grammar Careers Convention.

Ellis Jones’ representatives spoke to a range of students about a career in law. The students varied from Year 9, starting to choose their GCSE options, to Year 12 students at the beginning of their A Levels.

Lots of questions were asked by students including what A Level options to choose and what the different routes to law were. Annie and Mark were able to offer their advice on how they secured a training contract with Ellis Jones and undertook the Legal Practice Course. One student asked what a job as a solicitor would involve on a day-to-day basis. Annie and Mark have worked in different areas of law throughout their time at Ellis Jones and therefore were able to explain the variation in roles in the different areas of law. The event was a success and Ellis Jones look forward to attending next year both individually and in support of the Bournemouth and District Law Society.

On Thursday 10th March, Commercial Property Solicitor, Anna Zeeva, and Marketing & Events Coordinator, Hannah Sharland, were invited to Corfe Hills School to give a presentation to first year sixth form students on a career in law.

The presentation discussed the different routes available to enter a career in law, considering both the traditional and alternative routes to law. Students were particularly interested in the new apprenticeship route which is being implemented this September 2016, in the form of The Legal Trailblazer Scheme. This route will provide a legal qualification without the need to complete a University degree. Ellis Jones look forward to returning to Corfe Hills School again next year.

Ellis Jones is committed to informing and inspiring local students about a career in law and the different options that are available to them and looks forward to being involved in further career fairs and school presentations.
