Ellis Jones Staff March for Remembrance Sunday

We are proud that so many members of our staff are actively involved in the community and recently two members of staff that have military links took part in commemorating the First World War Armistice on Remembrance Sunday.

William Dooley, our Banking & Finance Litigation Solicitor is a Flight Lieutenant and Commissioned Officer within the RAF Air Cadets, acting as Squadron Commander of the 344 (Fulham) Squadron with over 45 young people aged between 12-19 attending each week.

The RAF Air Cadets are invited by the borough Mayor to take part in the Remembrance Sunday March each year. There were 36 cadets in attendance at the march and Church service this November, while others attended the National Service of Remembrance held at the Cenotaph in Whitehall to pay their respects. William is also the Aide De Camp to the Lord Mayor’s Office and attended the Lord Mayor’s Parade in London on the Saturday before Remembrance Sunday.

The Royal Air Force is the United Kingdom’s aerial warfare force. It was formed towards the end of the First World War on 1 April 1918. Part of the aims of the Air Cadets is to foster the spirit of adventure and develop the qualities of good leadership and
citizenship. The Cadets offer a wide variety of activities, from sports, adventure training, , support through BTEC courses, life saving first aid training and teaches the importance of self discipline, respect and integrity in all aspects of life. For a small monthly subscription and lots of fund raising young people aged 12-19 are able to enjoy all that Cadets has to offer.

William’s role in his Squadron involves parading with the unit twice a week and he runs a variety of activities, training and lessons in aviation, navigation and leadership.. He has also been involved in multiple fundraising activities to enable his Squadron to participate in several camps in both the UK and abroad. Some of his trips include trekking the Drakensberg Mountains in South Africa and the Fish River Canyon in Namibia. (As seen in the photo above).

In 2018 Conor was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant after attending the Army Officer Selection Board at Westbury and has since commanded 3 Detachments before moving back to Dorset in September 2019. Conor has now been appointed as a Staff Officer at Devon ACF, in the role of Vocational Qualifications Officer, helping Cadets work towards BTEC and ILM awards and gain real-world qualifications outside of the military training syllabus.
