A legal placement year at Ellis Jones

During my legal placement at Ellis Jones, I have spent a significant amount of time within the Private Client department where I have been given the opportunity to work alongside Diane Vincent and Cariad Medway-Smith. During my time in Private Client I have assisted heavily with Court of Protection work, this area of work requires a deep understanding of individuals and their needs. We manage the everyday affairs of our clients which is a huge responsibility and I have always been trusted to work within the best interests of our clients and encouraged to work off of my own initiative.

Regardless of being a student, I have been allocated stimulating tasks such as taking instructions from clients in meetings or drafting important legal documents for example, Lasting Powers of Attorney. I have been presented with opportunities and experiences that I did not think a placement year would offer. More importantly I have been integrated into the department and have been made to feel like someone who makes an effective contribution within the firm.

The firm has taken into consideration my interests in other departments and as a result I have built up my profile and worked across different offices. I have been fortunate enough to sit in court and in meetings with the counsel assisting the Personal Injury department, and I will also be joining the Conveyancing department for the last few months of my placement.

If you are a motivated student and want the chance to demonstrate your ability to be challenged, then a placement year at Ellis Jones will give you the chance to network and work alongside some of the most experienced individuals. Not only can I take away a wealth of experience, but my placement at Ellis Jones has determined my future in becoming a solicitor.
