What happens to employees on the sale of a business?
When a business is sold, employees transfer with that business. Before the business is sold there are strict regulations regarding consultation with the affected employees. Employees will be entitled to the same terms of employment after the sale, as they were before the sale. Any dismissal that is connected to the sale and occurs before or after the sale will be automatically unfair, unless a defence is shown by the employer. Both the buyer and the seller can be liable.
