Ellis Jones praised by Ringwood Carnival organisers

With just over a month to go to carnival day, organisers say they’re ahead of last year in terms of raising cash.

Michael Lingam-Willgoss, Vice-Chairman of the Carnival Committee, said so far £6,000 has been raised and he was “hugely appreciative” at the level of interest shown from local businesses.

“I’m incredibly impressed at the support we are receiving. We are so lucky to have a real community in which businesses are only too happy to play their part,” he said.

Mr Lingam-Willgoss was speaking during a visit to key sponsor Ellis Jones with Carnival Queen Giverny Helliar, 16, in one of her first official duties.

The law firm is sponsoring the Carnival Queen who is a student at Ringwood School.

Mr Lingam-Willgoss said: “Without the support of firms like Ellis Jones we’d never raise the sort of money we do for worthwhile charities.

“The firm is right at the centre of the community."

This year’s carnival day is on Saturday September 17 with an afternoon parade followed by an evening torchlight procession.

Free events on The Bickerley include a fun fair, trade stands, the ‘Village Green’ with charity/community stalls and a grand firework display evening finale.

The first Ringwood Carnival was held in 1929 with the event held every year since 1950.

Nigel Smith, Ellis Jones’ Managing Partner, said: “Ringwood Carnival is a wonderful community event which really brings people together.

“We’re pleased to play our part in ensuring this much-loved carnival continues to go from strength to strength.”
